University of North Carolina - Chapel HillThe University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill is a university located in the town of Chapel Hill in North Carolina. It is the flagship university of the state and is one of the oldest universities in the United States, having taken its first students in 1795. It, along with 4 other institutions, claims the title of oldest public university in the United States.
It is ranked very highly in both the US News and World Report (30 Nationally) and the Academic Ranking of World Universities(38). As well as this, the School of Information & Library Studies (where I would be based) has an excellent reputation among its peer schools across the US, consistently ranking in the top five year after year.
When it comes to accommodation and dining on campus, the university has a wide selection of choices. It's residence halls are a mix of traditional, suite, and apartment and they have a number of options for third and fourth year students which remain open over the semester breaks. There are also a wide range of dining choices as well, with a mix of cafes and dining halls (some of them open on the weekend).
For shopping there are really only two options. The first is the four block strip directly adjacent to campus, and the second is the small mall which is only a short bus ride away.
Outside the university there are lots of job opportunities for BSIS students, as the university is located in what is known as the 'Research Triangle' where a lot of IT companies are based.
